Russian-born violinist Stanislav Pronin will be an artist in residence in the College of Fine Arts (COFA) at The University of Texas at Austin until Jan. 31, 2011.
His responsibilities include performing with university faculty and students in recitals and concerts, providing support to chamber music faculty and coaching for the UT Symphony, the Butler Opera Center and the Musical Theatre Initiative. His residency is being managed and underwritten by the Classical Artists Development Foundation.
“Stanislav Pronin is a spectacular addition to the Austin classical music scene,” says College of Fine Arts Dean Douglas Dempster. “We’re very pleased that he’s decided to make Austin his professional home, and the College of Fine Arts is going to make the most of his talents to enrich the musical and professional life of our students and programs. Stanislav’s appointment as Artist in Residence in COFA further deepens our already rich partnership with the Austin Lyric Opera, which advances the College’s goal of building mutually beneficial arts partnerships across the city.”
Pronin began his violin studies at a young age and by the age of 14 had given numerous solo and chamber recitals in Israel, the United States and Europe. While appearing at the International Music Festival at Galicia, Spain, his talent and skill came to the attention of Nelli Shkolnikova, a world-renowned professor of violin, who invited Pronin to study with her at Indiana University.
His performance at Indiana earned him a top 1 percent ranking at the school and full scholarship support. After Shkolnikova’s retirement, Pronin continued his studies at the university with Professor of Violin Jaime Laredo and in 2009 he was awarded the Performance Certificate — the highest performance recognition awarded by Indiana.
Pronin maintains a large repertoire ranging in scope and variety from early baroque to the 21st century. He has performed in many music festivals and concert venues, including Dekelboum Hall in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall and the Miller Theatre in New York City, among many others. He is the recipient of multiple awards from the American String Teachers Association, America-Israel Cultural Foundation and Canada Council for the Arts.
