The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin and the Concord Coalition will present The Fiscal Solutions Tour: An Evening with Leading Thinkers on National Budget Policy in Austin on Feb. 9.

The Fiscal Solutions Tour is a series of public forums around the country focusing on possible solutions to the nation’s record debt and other fiscal and economic challenges. The Austin event, which is open to the public, will feature presentations by national budget policy thinkers:

  • Dr. Alice Rivlin — member of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, Inaugural Congressional Budget Office Director, former vice chair of the Federal Reserve under Chairman Alan Greenspan and director of the White House Office of Management and Budget during the Clinton administration
  • The Honorable David Walker — former comptroller general of the United States, founder and C.E.O. of the Comeback America Initiative
  • Robert Bixby — executive director of the Concord Coalition and member of the Bipartisan Policy Center Debt Reduction Task Force

The event will take place at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. and will be followed by a reception with light refreshments in the first floor lobby of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. This event is free to the public. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested. To register, visit: https://www.utexas.edu/lbj/news/registration/fiscal-solutions-tour .

“We at the LBJ School are pleased to host the Fiscal Solutions Tour public presentation here in Austin for what promises to be a realistic and constructive dialogue about our nation’s fiscal policies and the potential solutions that need to be considered to meet the score of challenges before us,” said Robert Hutchings, dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. “As we commemorate the School’s 40th anniversary, one of our goals is to engage the community in public policy debate and dialogue with leading thinkers of our time. This event delivers on that promise, providing a front row seat to a policy discussion that will impact us and generations to come.”

This initiative follows up on The Fiscal Wake-Up Tour, a highly acclaimed effort in which budget analysts of diverse perspectives explained why they were increasingly alarmed by the nation’s longer-term fiscal outlook. Between 2005 and 2009, the Wake-Up Tour visited more than 70 cities across the country and was the subject of the critically acclaimed documentary “I.O.U.S.A.”
