Visual Arts Center Presents “The Working Homeless” Reception and Panel Discussion, Feb. 25

Event: “The Working Homeless” will be in the Center Space Gallery of the Visual Arts Center (VAC) in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin, Feb. 25-March 12. This exhibition is made up of video and sculpture that documents conversations with homeless panhandlers who stand alongside the freeway asking for help.

The opening reception will feature a panel discussion addressing issues raised by the exhibition. The discussion will be moderated by VAC Curatorial Fellow Noah Simblist and artist Daniel Rudin, and will include members of the university community researching issues of homelessness and participants whom Rudin filmed for “The Working Homeless.”

Background: “The Working Homeless” is presented by Center Space Project, the student organization of the VAC, which works with fellow students, faculty, alumni and visiting artists to create engaging shows and programs. Rudin is a second-year student in the master’s program in studio art at The University of Texas at Austin. The University Co-op sponsors “The Working Homeless.”
