In recognition of the 41st anniversary of Earth Day on April 22 The University of Texas at Austin Office of Sustainability is celebrating all month with daily green tips focused on the university community.

Green Tips on the front page of the Daily Texan student newspaper throughout April provide ideas for going green. Supporters are encouraged to share their stories, tips and photographs on the Office of Sustainability’s @UTAustinGreen Twitter channel and UT Austin Sustainability Facebook page.

“We have a very large and engaged campus community,” said Jim Walker, director of sustainability at the university. “Our daily green tips are meant to inform and encourage individuals about actions they can take with the institution to help in our pursuit of sustainability across campus. We look forward to the conversations these daily tips will generate about how to really maximize our positive impact. The University of Texas at Austin already does a lot and is poised to become a leader among higher education institutions for the scale of our activities, but only if the campus community really comes together around the common purpose of sustainability.”

The first week of Earth Month, beginning April 4, focused on recycling. The second week, beginning April 11, focused on alternative commuting. The third week, beginning April 18, is focused on energy conservation. The fourth week, beginning April 25, is focused on water conservation.

The university’s Tower will delay lighting until midnight on Friday, April 22, recognizing the 41st anniversary of Earth Day and the culmination of the week of daily tips focused on energy conservation.
