The National Academic Advising Association has named three individuals and two programs at The University of Texas at Austin as recipients of awards from the association’s Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising.
Kathy Stockwel, president of the National Academic Advising Association, said the awards recognize significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.
Associate Dean Mark Bernstein and Senior Academic Adviser Aida Gonzalez of the College of Communication and Academic Adviser Bradley Popiolek of the School of Undergraduate Studies were selected to receive individual awards. Bernstein was selected for the Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit in the Academic Advising Faculty Category. Gonzalez was selected for the Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit in the Academic Advising Primary Role Category. Popiolek was selected for the Outstanding New Adviser Certificate of Merit in the Academic Advising Primary Role Category.
The Longhorn Link Program in the university’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, directed by Michael Nava, received the Outstanding Institutional Advising Program Certificate of Merit.
The Wayfinder program in the School of Undergraduate Studies was selected as recipient of the Outstanding Advising Technology Innovation Certificate of Merit. This advising technology innovation was developed by David Spight and Popiolek.
The three awards will be presented in Denver in October during the annual conference of the National Academic Advising Association. The recipients also will be recognized in booklets and posters displayed at the conference.
