Meet a Forty Acres Scholar: Monica Bischoff

Ten new Longhorns will start the fall semester as Forty Acres Scholars. In this student profile, get to know Monica Bischoff from Westfield High School in Houston, Texas.

Monica Bischoff is one of 10 top entering freshmen from across the state selected to receive the prestigious Forty Acres Scholarship, a new program from the Texas Exes Scholarship Foundation.

Monica will graduate from Westfield High School in Houston in June. She was accepted into the business honors program and liberal arts honors program at The University of Texas at Austin for fall. Monica is an AP Scholar graduating with honors and is ranked second in her class of 659 students.

Throughout her four years in high school, she was a member of the Westfield Big Red Band, serving as the percussion quartermaster and front ensemble section leader in 11th and 12th grades. She served as team captain for two years on the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Social Studies Team for her school. She was also a member of the UIL current events and issues, math, spelling and vocabulary teams.

Other leadership roles include vice president and president of Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics honor society for junior, high school and community college students within the U.S., and a founding officer of the Origins Fine Arts Honor Society. She is also involved with the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and the Academic Decathlon team.

Outside of school, Monica has been a volunteer of the Distinguished Service Graduate Program since 2007. The program is a district-wide volunteer program which requires at least 30 hours of service per year for Spring Independent School District students. She also spent time volunteering with the Methodist Hospital Caring Teens Summer Youth Volunteer Program where she assisted in the neurosurgical nursing unit for two summers.
