Meet a Forty Acres Scholar: Linda Shi

Ten new Longhorns will start the fall semester as Forty Acres Scholars. In this student profile, get to know Linda Shi from Allen High School in Allen, Texas.

Linda Shi is one of 10 top entering freshmen from across the state selected to receive the prestigious Forty Acres Scholarship, a new program from the Texas Exes Scholarship Foundation.

Linda graduated from Allen High School in Allen, Texas in June. She will enter The University of Texas at Austin in the fall.

Linda is a National Merit Finalist and a U.S. Presidential Scholar candidate. She has also earned numerous University Interscholastic League Journalism honors, including placing first in 5A Journalism at the state competition, and was named the best news writer of the Eagle Angle Newspaper staff in her junior year.

Linda spent two years working for the Eagle Angle, Allen High School’s print and online paper. She has served in numerous leadership positions with the paper, including managing the Web site, designing a new external newspaper Web site, writing main news stories for many issues and directing the eight-member online staff. She spent three years on Allen’s diving team and was selected by the coach as the varsity captain. She also co-founded the school’s multicultural club, HERO, which organizes service projects to aid those in need.

Since 2006, Linda has worked for Allen Teen Court. During her time with the court, she has served as a pro bono attorney and judge for juvenile Class C misdemeanors. She is recognized as the longest-tenured attorney and only attorney to serve as interim judge. She also founded and is serving as chairwoman for the Allen Teen Court Committee, which supervises and helps train teen attorneys.
