Jamie Shutter has been named interim director for University Health Services (UHS) at The University of Texas at Austin effective Sept. 1.

Shutter was appointed to the position by Dr. Chris Brownson, associate vice president for student affairs. She will succeed Dr. Jeanne Carpenter, who recently announced her retirement.

“Jamie’s experience in administration within UHS as well as her active involvement within the Division of Student Affairs make her well suited for this position,” Brownson said. “She has a very strong passion for college health and has been a campus leader for wellness and prevention.”

Shutter has worked for 22 years in a variety of roles in UHS, and has served as associate director since 2007. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health education from Southern Illinois University.

“I am delighted with the appointment of Jamie Shutter,” said Juan González, vice president for student affairs. “Her dedication to our health services and to the work of the Division of Student Affairs has been critical in helping our students develop healthy habits that in turn help our students succeed academically and in life.”

University Health Services provides medical care and patient education to students at the university and implements campus public health and health promotion initiatives. Along with general medical and urgent care, services include women’s health, immunizations and allergy shots, travel health, sports medicine, laboratory, radiology, the UHS pharmacy, the Health Promotion Resource Center, and the Center for Students in Recovery.
