Challenging a woman’s role in medicine
Alumna Sue Ellen Young Knolle was determined to pursue medical school after graduating from UT in the ’60s, despite it not being a traditional path for women at the time.
After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin in 1961, Sue Ellen Young Knolle was ambitious yet stifled by the career choices women were steered towards.
Nevertheless, Young Knolle did not let male-dominated medical school or residency programs deter her from pursuing her interest in ophthalmology.
