Background: The University of Texas at Austin is hosting its third annual International Education Week to help promote and celebrate cross-cultural exchanges, foreign language acquisition, diversity appreciation and global citizenship. UT students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in events hosted by colleges, departments, program offices, area centers and student organizations across campus. Events include foreign film nights, documentary film nights, language sessions, country and culture workshops, travel seminars, music and dance performances, art exhibits and international trivia competitions. International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the enriching benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the U.S. First held in 2000, International Education Week is celebrated today in more than 100 countries worldwide.
