Event: Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas Kristof will speak at The University of Texas at Austin at an event hosted by the Plan II Honors Program.

Background: Kristof will discuss “Stories of Survival and Courage from the Fight to End Human Trafficking” as part of the 2012 Liz Carpenter Lecture Series.
Writing for The New York Times, Kristof has traveled the globe to document the ongoing traffic of women and girls sold into sexual slavery. Through his column, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2006, Kristof has introduced readers to heroes fighting against human trafficking and survivors who have themselves become activists.
Established in 1984, the Liz Carpenter Lectureship has featured such notables as President Bill Clinton, President Gerald Ford, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Egyptian first lady Jehan Sadat, investigative journalist and former White House Press Secretary Bill Moyers, and chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall. The lectureship has also featured a number of renowned writers including Maya Angelou, Betty Friedan, Nora Ephron, Shana Alexander and Jean Auel, and nationally known humorists Fannie Flagg and Carol Channing.
