The Central Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking, the Seton Healthcare Family, the School of Social Work and the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault are sponsoring the conference.

Background: U.S. Ambassador Luis CdeBaca was appointed by President Barack Obama to coordinate U.S. government activities in the global fight against contemporary forms of slavery. He is expected to address human trafficking on the Texas-Mexico border among other human trafficking issues. CdeBaca is a former federal prosecutor who investigated and prosecuted money laundering, organized crime, alien smuggling, hate crimes and human trafficking. He was lead trial counsel in what, at the time, was the largest slavery prosecution in U.S. history, involving the enslavement of more than 300 Vietnamese and Chinese workers in a garment factory in American Samoa.
The Central Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking works to increase public awareness and identification of human trafficking cases and to provide identified victims of human trafficking with comprehensive social and medical services.
