The University of Texas at Austin is looking for “the chief architect, executive and intellectual leader” of the new Dell Medical School, according to a newly posted job description for its inaugural dean.
“This role presents the right leader with the opportunity to forge an historic cooperation among teachers, researchers and health care providers in state-of-the-art facilities, in a common effort to produce the knowledge, management systems and skilled doctors who will improve the lives of millions of people, both locally and globally,” the job posting says.
The Dell Medical School is being formed by UT Austin to improve health in Travis County and throughout the country by training new physicians, providing treatment in a new teaching hospital and conducting research to expand knowledge of medicine and medical technology.
Scheduled to accept its first class in 2016, the school will offer a unique opportunity in medical education. As part of a visionary partnership with Seton Healthcare Family, a regional health care system, and Central Health, a public health care district, a new teaching hospital will be constructed adjacent to the new Dell Medical School. By designing these facilities concurrently within an integrated complex, the effort represents an unprecedented opportunity to create the best possible environment to respond to community needs and provide patient care.
Review of candidates for inaugural dean by the Dell Medical School Dean Search Committee begins in September, with the hope that the dean will assume office by early 2014. Candidates are to offer their credentials at DellMedicalDean@wittkieffer.com.
The inaugural dean will be expected to build collaborative relationships and innovative programs; recruit an outstanding faculty and staff; organize and direct the process leading to accreditation of the new school; oversee the completion of the new medical school facilities; and expand and build upon the partnerships in this uniquely pivotal venture.
