On Thursday, Feb. 6, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will discuss innovation in manufacturing and the importance of STEM education with The University of Texas at Austin and local community members.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will discuss innovation in manufacturing and the importance of STEM education with The University of Texas at Austin and local community members. Moniz will begin his day with Austin entrepreneurs and then travel to the UT Austin campus for a speech to students, faculty members, staffers and the media.

Schedule: Thursday, Feb. 6

8-9 a.m. Breakfast and CEO/Startup Roundtable at Pecan Street Inc.’s Pike Powers Laboratory and Center for Commercialization. Meeting with local clean-tech entrepreneurs and officials.

9-9:30 a.m. Tour of Pike Powers Lab

10:30-11:15 a.m. Moniz speech on UT Austin campus, in Avaya Auditorium in the Peter O’Donnell, Jr. Building for Applied Computational Engineering and Sciences (A.C.E.S.). Introductions by UT Austin Provost Gregory L. Fenves and Cockrell School Professor and UT Austin Energy Institute Deputy Director Michael Webber. QandA session for attendees after the speech.

He is a nuclear physicist, a former professor of physics and engineering systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a champion for STEM education.
