#WeWalkWithBurd Says Farewell to a Beloved Professor
Journalism students paid tribute to retiring professor Gene Burd by joining him on his daily 2.5-mile walk to campus, sharing moving stories and thank-yous along the way.

[This and UT home page photo: Maria Roque] Every day for the past 42 years Gene Burd walked 2.5 miles from his home to The University of Texas at Austin campus to teach journalism. He retired on Thursday, May 1, and students joined him on the walk for a final farewell.
The journey had its own hashtag these are journalists, after all and what followed was a moving collection of tributes, memories, quotes and thank-you’s for a man who dedicated his career to help others launch their own.
