The University of Texas at Austin will welcome more than 7,300 students from 42 states, 35 countries and five continents as they “Mooov-In” to 14 on-campus residence halls. Nearly 400 faculty members, staffers and student volunteers will be on hand to help the newest generation of Longhorns and their families “Mooov-In.” Mooov-In is organized by Housing and Food Service, part of the Division of Student Affairs.

WHO: University President Bill Powers, Vice President for Student Affairs Gage Paine and Dean of Students Soncia Reagins-Lilly will be on hand to answer questions from the media during central check-in. Spanish speaking spokespeople from Housing and Food Service also will be available. Afterward, media are invited to Duren Residence Hall for additional video footage.
BACKGROUND: For 21 years, “Mooov-In” volunteers have helped students get settled into our 14 on-campus residence halls. The goal is to create a smooth transition to college for students, preparing them to start learning and get on the path to graduate in four years. Mooov-In officially kicks off Longhorn Welcome. The initiative is a series of free events for incoming first-year and transfer students, welcoming them to the university community. The festivities continue through Sept. 3 with 10 signature events. Dozens of other Longhorn Welcome events are also taking place to celebrate UT Austin’s core values and traditions.
