University Mourns Death of Harrison Brown

Gregory L. Fenves, president of UT Austin, this morning shared the tragic news that the student killed in the May 1 campus stabbing was Harrison Brown of Graham, Texas.

Brown was an undeclared freshman in the School of Undergraduate Studies.

“He was interested in the College of Liberal Arts and maybe an economics major,” said Fenves, “but his brother John told me that he really wanted to follow his passion of music. He was a talented musician and was interested in our Butler School of Music.”

“His family and our community will never be able to hear Harrison play and sing again, and for this our hearts are breaking, and we are deeply deeply saddened,” said Fenves.

Brown was a member of the UT Catholic Community. At 8 p.m. tonight there will be a memorial mass for Brown at the University Catholic Center. The center invites all members of the UT Austin community regardless of religious affiliation.

Plans for a campus memorial will be announced shortly.
