AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas at Austin is one of the world’s leading universities, according to two global rankings released this week. UT Austin ranked No. 31 among universities in the world in the latest Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) and No. 36 in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings.

In the CWUR, UT Austin ranks No. 22 among U.S. universities and No. 8 among U.S. public universities. In the World Reputation Rankings, UT ranks No. 32 among U.S. universities and No. 8 among public universities.

“These rankings are further validation of what we already know — our students receive a world-class education grounded in the breadth and depth of the research and scholarship happening across UT Austin. I am thrilled to see the accomplishments of our faculty, researchers and students acknowledged in these rankings,” said Maurie McInnis, executive vice president and provost at UT Austin.

CWUR has published a global ranking of universities since 2012. The ranking combines seven factors measuring educational quality, faculty quality, alumni employment, patents, publishing, faculty research citations and influence.

Other Texas universities ranked in CWUR’s top 100 include UT Southwestern Medical Center (No. 66), Texas A&M University (No. 78) and UT MD Anderson (No. 89).

The World Reputation Rankings are based on a survey completed by more than 10,000 senior academics from 138 countries on excellence in research and teaching in their disciplines at institutions with which they are familiar. It was established in 2011 as a spinoff of the annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The only other Texas university ranked in the World Reputation Rankings’ top 100 is Texas A&M (71-80).

UT Austin has been recognized as a top university globally by other recent publications, including No. 32 in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking, No. 51 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, and No. 22 in the world for scientific research in the 2017 Nature Index.
