AUSTIN, Texas — 2020 posed unique challenges to the UT Austin community, but Longhorns rallied together to ensure the university carried out its research and educational mission in the midst of it all.
Here are a few times UT Austin’s excellence was recognized in 2020:
Five No. 1 graduate programs & 48 top 10 programs
U.S. News & World Report released the latest edition of the Best Graduate Schools report on March 17. This year, UT Austin has five specialty programs ranked No. 1 and 48 schools and specialties ranked among the nation’s top 10. This places UT Austin among the top five public universities for top 10 graduate programs.
National recognition for Latino student success
In early October, the university received the prestigious Seal of Excelencia, which is granted to a small group of colleges and universities committed to accelerating Latino student success. UT was one of just five universities to receive the recognition this year.
No. 13 U.S. public school
UT Austin rose one spot to No. 42 (No. 13 public) in the U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of national universities this year. UT’s academic reputation, high selectivity and undergraduate student experience were the largest contributors to its standing.
Around the globe
U.S. News & World Report ranked UT Austin No. 38 in the world in its Best Global Universities ranking. The ranking focuses primarily on overall academic research and reputation.
Research and teaching
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked UT Austin No. 30 in its World Reputation Rankings. This ranking is based on results from the world’s largest invitation-only survey of senior and published academics. Scholars are asked to name up to 15 universities they believe to be the best for research and teaching in their respective fields.
Innovation
UT Austin ranked No. 15 in the Most Innovative Schools ranking by the U.S. News & World Report. This rank is based on the most innovative improvements done in a variety of areas, including curriculum, faculty, campus life, technology and facilities.
No. 1 Texas university for veterans
UT Austin was named the No. 1 college for veterans in Texas in a recent study by career website Zippia. UT Austin ranked No. 6 nationally.
Student life
UT Austin was named the No. 10 college with the Best Student Life in the country by data and reviews website Niche. This ranking was created out of student reviews and statistics by the U.S. Department of Education. Top-ranked schools have a positive and friendly student community.
