The National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes at The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education has received more than $24 million in federal funding to continue to expand programs and resources that support deaf students pursuing education, training and careers.
What to know:
- The funding includes three federal awards that will support the center’s national work through 2031 and expand services for deaf students and professionals.
- The largest award, $20 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, will support the center’s work through 2031.
- A $2.25 million grant will launch a national initiative to strengthen interpreter training and support deaf youths as they transition to college, career training and employment.
- A $2.1 million grant will fund Deafverse Career Connections, a new career-readiness program designed for deaf students in grades nine through 11.
For nearly a decade, the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes has helped schools, colleges and workforce agencies create more accessible pathways to education and careers for deaf individuals. The center is also behind Deafverse, a first-of-its-kind online game developed by a deaf-led team that helps deaf youths build self-advocacy and college and career readiness skills through interactive storytelling and American Sign Language.
