Bill Powers, president of The University of Texas at Austin, presented a check for $725,000 to the Austin Community Foundation Thursday, Oct. 20, representing the net proceeds from the Oct. 17 “Fire Relief: The Concert for Central Texas” at the university’s Frank Erwin Center.

The Harry Ransom Center, a humanities research library and museum at The University of Texas at Austin, has acquired the archive of Nobel Prize-winning writer and University of Texas at Austin alumnus J. M. Coetzee. Spanning more than 50 years, the archive traces the author’s life and career from 1956 through the present.

Event: Opening reception of “Fearless,” photographer Jeff Sheng’s series of portraits of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) high school and collegiate athletes. “Fearless” will remain on display through Oct. 31.
