The University of Texas at Austin is part of a group of institutions working together to build the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT).

The GMT will be larger than any telescope in existence today. When it’s completed in about 2019 it will take advantage of seven large mirrors at a prime observing site in Chile to push the boundaries of astronomy.
