Rita Clements was an outstanding First Lady of Texas, committed public servant and proud Longhorn who loved her alma mater and dedicated her life to making it even greater. The UT community mourns her loss and sends our thoughts and prayers to her family.

Mrs. Clements was honored in 1991 with a Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2009 with UT System’s Santa Rita Award. Along with her husband Gov. Bill Clements, she was an early supporter of the Michener Center and the Normandy Scholars program. As a long-serving member of the UT System Board of Regents, she improved higher education on the 40 Acres and around the state. And her support of UT’s Clements Center for National Security was vital to its pursuit of scholarship of history, strategy and statecraft.

Her legacy will endure on campus for generations to come.
