A San Antonio middle school with some of the highest discipline rates in its district has experienced an 84 percent drop in off-campus suspensions during the past year since administrators began using “restorative discipline” as an alternative to “zero tolerance” to deal with conflicts among students.

John Russell Beaumont, a Plan II Honors Program and architecture graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded a Marshall Scholarship, one of the most coveted study abroad scholarships available.

The university moved up six spots from last year’s ranking. “We have said for years that UT Austin is an outstanding value,” President Powers said.

Researcher’s findings help detect and diagnose threatening illnesses.

The University of Texas at Austin ranks second in the nation for the number of students studying abroad and among the top 25 for international student enrollment, according to the newly released “Open Doors 2013” report published by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

In honor of the historic $50 million endowment, the university is hosting a public reception and ceremony today, Thursday, Nov. 7, culminating in a Tower lighting.

The O’Donnell Foundation has committed $9.3 million to the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at The University of Texas at Austin to support student fellowships, faculty teaching and faculty recruiting.

New high school graduation requirements in Texas will significantly affect academic achievement in the state, particularly for low-income students of color, according to a policy report released by the Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis (IUPRA) at The University of Texas at Austin.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has selected assistant professor Zheng Wang of the Cockrell School of Engineering as a 2013 Packard Fellow for Science and Engineering.
