University of Texas at Austin History Professor Denise A. Spellberg has been named the $10,000 grand prize winner of the 2014 University Co-op Robert W. Hamilton Book Awards for her work “Thomas Jefferson’s Qur’an: Islam and the Founders.”

The Harry Ransom Center presents novelist Jayne Anne Phillips for a Harry Ransom Lecture as she reads from “Quiet Dell” (Scribner), a novel based on the true story of a murderous West Virginia con man who preyed on widows. A reception and book signing follow.

The Harry Ransom Center, a humanities research library and museum at The University of Texas at Austin, celebrates the homecoming of one of its most famous and frequently borrowed art works, the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s “Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird” (1940).
